“Could not put this book down!
A beautifully written book by Jeanne Joe. A cultural story filled with Chinese cultures intertwined with Christianity. I could not put this book down! Sadly, I finished the book today and yearned to hopefully read a sequel on the life of the little girl, forced to become a brave courageous adult in a very foreign land of the USA.”

“A touching glimpse into a world most Westerners know little about
WIND CHIMES kind of sneaks up on the reader. Apparently, a straightforward account of the life of a simple young Chinese woman growing up in Macao during the early 1900s, we first find her forced into an arranged marriage. Quickly discovering that she's basically become a domestic servant, we slowly begin to understand that this is someone with a strong independent streak—a woman determined to break free from her strictly housebound condition and spread her wings. Though it takes years of patient resignation, acceptance of her lot and dedication to the children she gives birth to (as well as to the siblings her chauvinist and disinterested husband has obliged her to raise), watching Hai-lan discover a special relationship with the spiritual world, blossom into a mature and resourceful woman–and ultimately find true love—is a vivid and moving experience.”
