When our beloved pets die, do you wonder if you’ll see them if/when you go to heaven? I don’t pretend to have the answer, but here are some ideas.
Ma and I lost our beloved German Shepherd dog when I was still a child. I described Brownie in my first book “Ying-Ying: Pieces of a Childhood”. I was sad and angry about the way he died. We were convinced our neighbor, a fisherman, was responsible when Ma found the remains of poisoned fish in our backyard. The veterinarians said Brownie died because of poison. After I became an adult, much to my distress, my two cats died after many years of companionship. I loved all my pets and miss them very much. I want to believe that I’ll enjoy their company in the hereafter.
Here are the reasons why I think there’s a good chance pets will be in heaven.
I look forward to being reunited with our loved ones—humans and animals. Don’t you?
Thanks for hearing me out,
Jeanne
- Unlike mankind, animals did not inherit sin. They are innocent, unblemished and clean—eligible for heaven.
- The Bible does not mention pets specifically, but animals are included in descriptions of heaven on earth. “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.” Isaiah 11:6 KJV. If God will let wild animals be part of heaven, how much more so our tame pets.
- The Bible asks us to love one another and all creation, including animals. We have loved and cared for our pets. They seemed to return that love.
- Most important, we know that with God all things are possible.
I look forward to being reunited with our loved ones—humans and animals. Don’t you?
