If you’ve been reading my newsletters or my books, you would know that I had a dog when I was very young, birds as a teen, and two cats as an adult. In one of my issues, I wondered if pets go to heaven--I still think they do. If you love animals; if you want to have one of your very own, or if you can to add to your pet family, here are some news that will interest you.
Blessings of the Animals
The traditional Blessings of the Animals will take place Saturday, April 20, the day before Easter, on Downtown Los Angeles’ Olvera Street. Pet owners can bring cats, dogs, rabbits, birds, or others. Starting at 2 p.m. the animals will participate in a procession that passes in front of Archbishop Jose Gomez, who will sprinkle holy water and give them his blessing. There will also be folkloric dancing and music. The event is free and runs from noon-4 p.m.
Cat Café Coming
I read in the "Downtown News" recently an item called “Cat Café Coming”. On May 18 the West L.A.-based Cat Cafe Lounge will launch Tiny Beans Kitten Lounge, a pop-up at 551 S. Spring Street. In return for a donation, visitors will receive a coffee or tea and can then play with the cats and kittens. The lounge will be open every day (except Tuesdays) 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Entries will be timed: 50 minutes, starting on the hour. The space will include an area where the cats can get away from human visitors. Every cat will be available for adoption. The pop-up’s organizers hope to get 1,000 cats adopted by the end of the 3-month run on September 1. Go to http://catcafelounge.com for more information.
